My Top 5 Favorite Drugstore Mascaras

Mascara is my favorite part of makeup. If there’s one thing I won’t leave the house without, it’s mascara. It opens the eyes, makes you look more awake, and basically gives the illusion of a face lift. πŸ˜‰ My love for mascara started when I was about 12, so I’ve had about 10 years to try every drugstore mascara I could get my hands on. These 5 drugstore mascaras are my tried and true. Not only are they wonderful mascaras but they’re insanely inexpensive (MY FAV). I really couldn’t tell you which one is my favorite, but I’ll list what I like about each so you can decide which ones you’d like to try.

#1: L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Mascara (original or waterproof)

This mascara is a classic. I LOVE this wand. The full fiber wand picks up a lot of product but doesn’t make your eyelashes clumpy. Every time I use this mascara my eyelashes look fluttery, thick, and voluminous. My #1 favorite thing I love about this mascara is that the waterproof is just as good as the original. Nearly every waterproof mascara I’ve used seems to only coat my lashes with black cement. No length, no volume, just a black dye that rips out your eyelashes when you try to remove it. The L’Oreal Waterproof Voluminous Mascara is IDENTICAL to the original in formula except that it’s waterproof and doesn’t smear when wet. (Rachelle tip: Apply a coat of regular mascara before applying waterproof mascara for easy removal later. Works like a charm and still doesn’t smear in water!)

#2: Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies Mascara

This is the mascara of my high school years. When I was in high school, I wanted dramatic, thick, long lashes. Because natural wasn’t an option. πŸ˜‰ This mascara gave me everything I wanted! The curved bristles made it easy to get close to my inner lashes, and the formula is so buildable. Time and time again I’d get asked if I was wearing false lashes when I wore this mascara (it really made the mascara name perfect). This one is definitely worth a try if you’re looking for both length and volume.

#3: Rimmel Scandal Eyes Lycra Flex Mascara

This mascara was an impulse buy. An “oops I forgot my mascara here’s a cheap one I grabbed at CVS in 2 minutes” impluse buy. I had low expectations for this mascara (sorry, Rimmel!), so you can imagine my surprise when it became a favorite with my first use. I’m a huge fan of the thick fiber mascara wands (in case you haven’t noticed already) because of how well they disperse product and the fluttery look they provide. This mascara provides the thick fluttery look, but more importantly it provides LENGTH. Holy cow. My lashes looked long, curled, and separated on the first coat. This one’s a gold mine.

#4: L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara

This bad boy is a rubber wand. Yay!!! It took me a long time to stray out of the fiber wands. But I’m so glad I did! This wand is jam-packed with rubber bristles to separate and lengthen every little lash. It also provides amazing volume without looking clumpy. Be super careful though, rubber wands can be a little painful if you get too close to the base of the lash and stab your eye. HA. I love this mascara but you’ve got to be careful with those spikey things.

#5: L’Oreal Telescopic Carbon Black Mascara

Another rubber wand! If you’re the kind of gal that only wants to add length to your lashes, this one’s for you. Because the bristles are so incredibly small, you can get right in the base of your lashes, allowing the wand to separate while lengthening. The length this mascara provides is incredible. I love to pair this mascara with a volumizing mascara! I like to start out with a coat of L’Oreal Telescopic, then alternate between this one and a volumizing mascara. A total dynamic duo. P.S. Does anyone double up on mascara anymore??

There you have it! Did I miss one of your favorites? Please share with me yours so I can give them a try!
